WEMBLEY TOWER?
An initial idea for the Wembley Stadium redevelopment was to move the pitch area and keep the twin towers.
A single tower to rival the Eiffel Tower had been attempted but abandoned in the early 1900’s however before the stadium was built and it was thought that the foundations may be still below the Wembley turf.
A Ground Probing Radar survey of the whole of the pitch using a medium depth antenna was undertaken and indeed revealed the likely positions of these old foundations.
This would of course have to be accounted for in any future development plans and may have influenced the final decision for the new stadium. |
